4) School Textbooks 2016– 2017

The textbook lists for the 2016 – 2017 academic year are published on the ABS website. Please click here to view the lists.

For current parents, the list also appears on Edline under “New Textbooks’ Lists (2016– 2017)”in Contents which is on the top right of the first page.

For students who have been at ABS before, it is very important that you keep your books from this year - in some cases, the same books may be required for next year especially if you are in grades 9 and 11. If you do not need your books this year, please consider recycling your books by passing them to a younger student.

To avoid the rush of the first day of selling textbooks and long queuing, it has been decided with Philadelphia Book Gallery to specify days to sell textbooks for each section of the school in the Multipurpose Hall behind the Additional Educational Needs Department (Old IB College building) according to the following schedule:

  • August 22 – 24: for Primary School (Grades 1 – 5) (9:00 am – 3:00 pm).
  • August 24 – 27: for Middle Years School (9:00 am – 3:00 pm), Friday the 26th is excluded.
  • August 28 & 29: for the IB College (9:00 am – 3:00 pm).
  • August 30: for exchanging books (8:00 am – 4:00pm).
  • August 31 - September 8: open to all schools to buy and exchange books (8:00 am – 4:00 pm) excluding Friday.
  • Opening hours on Saturdays: (9:00am– 3:00 pm).

To get to the Multipurpose Hall, please go to the Administration Building (upper gate). Take the elevator to the DT Floor then follow the signs.

Please note that exchanging books will not be allowed except on the 30th of August onwards to avoid long queuing. Books that have been covered with contact paper and /or labeled with a student’s name will not be exchanged or returned as per Philadelphia Book Gallery’s policy.

  • Parents/students should purchase ALL the books required for the school year/course of study during this selling period.
  • Payment can be made by cash, or by Visa or Master Card.
  • Parents/students who do not purchase the books during the selling period at the school will need to visit Philadelphia BookGallery in their new location in Yazeed Al Asadi Street, Building number 43 “Kandoor Commercial Centre” (مجمع قندور التجاري)  to purchase the books as we do not keep any stock on campus. Please find the directions to the new location below:
  • Please go to the Seventh Circle and take right to go to Abdulla Ghosheh Street.
  • On the 1st traffic light in the middle of Abdullah Ghosheh Street, please take left
  • Continue straight until you reach a T cross.
  • When you reach the T cross, please take right.
  • Please take the 2nd street on the left, named Yazeed al Asadi Street. You will find Philadelphia Book Gallery next to Nabeel Studio. Please note that the sign is not yet installed.

  • Parents will only be able to purchase one copy of each required text per student; should any parent wish to purchase a second copy of a text, this can be done through Philadelphia Book Gallery after the selling period in school, subject to supplies being available.
  • Please note that there are titles in the Grade 12 book lists (other than the books they have bought in Grade 11).
  • Students who change their subject option during the year will not be able to return their textbooks for refund.

5) Official School Uniform:

I am pleased to advise that, after carrying out a comprehensive tendering process, we have signed a contract with the company Jordan Sariya for Clothing to act as the school’s preferred supplier of student uniforms.   The tendering process involved members of the Uniform Advisory Committee which included PTA, Student and Heads of School representatives. The survey results received from both parents and students also informed the Committee on the areas to focus upon.  This included a change to the design and fabric of the trousers, change of colour for KG 1+2student uniform and minor changes to the neckline of the t-shirt worn under the formal shirt.  We have also introduced PE T-shirts depicting house colours as follows:  Red=Falcons, Blue=Eagles, Yellow=Hawks, Green=Oryx.  The brochure details all of the individual uniform designs and a price list for each item.

All uniform items will be available for sale from the retail store of Jordan Sariya for Clothing, starting from 15 August 2016.

Details of location are to be found on the last page of the booklet.

I would like to thank profusely the members of the Board of Trustees and the School Uniform Advisory Committee who have contributed to the tender process and the revision to individual items of uniform.

These include:

  • Finance Board Member: Mr Waseem Zurub
  • PTA Board Member: Mrs Tamara Al Qadi
  • PTA Member: Ms Reem Maayta
  • Student Council Representatives: Nadera Layyous (IB), Sadeen Halabi and Sufian Sartawi (MYS), Suhail Halaby (PS)
  • Bursar
  • Heads of School
  • Finance Manager
  • Purchasing and Contracts Manager

Without you all none of this would have been possible!

Finally, thank you to our new uniform provider, Mr Rami Nasereddin, Jordan Sariya for clothing Trade Co. Ltd. for his help and cooperation.

We look forward to a very positive working relationship.
