A Successful DT Project

As part of her Design Technology course Zaha Mango (grade 12) investigated the needs of child cancer patients at al Hussein Hospital. She took the responsibility of the designer to empathize with individuals and ascertain their needs. She interviewed the caretakers and the children at the hospital and designed and manufactured an innovative backpack to be used by the children who are confined to bed and in need of specialized medical care. The backpack allows the patients to have all their medical care equipment and medication portably available with them at all times. The product gave the children the freedom to be active and peruse their daily activities during their treatment and recovery time.
Zaha took her initiative further and raised funds to mass produce 400 bags and donated them to the cancer centre. Zaha demonstrated the International Baccalaureate learner profile Caring attribute by making a commitment to serve the community and to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Zaha also reflected Responsibility from the ALTARBIYEH acronym.
